Grandparents across the UK have come together to produce a unique and informative guide to travelling with grandchildren, thanks to Grannynet and Leger Holidays.
The free 10-page guide, packed with tops tips from real people with real experiences, is available to download at www.grandparents-leger.co.uk.
Although aimed at grandparents, the guide contains practical tips of use to parents and anyone taking a trip with children.
The launch of the publication follows research, conducted by Leger Holidays, which found that over a third (31 per cent) of UK grandparents holiday with their nearest and dearest and that half of British families depend on grandparents for their childcare during the summer holiday period.
The poll of 1,000 Brits also revealed that 19 per cent of those aged 65 and over fly solo when taking their grandchildren away, without the support or guidance of the child’s parents.
Following this news Leger, the escorted coach tour operator, decided to create a guide for holidaymakers due to take a family trip this summer and it enlisted the help of popular grandparenting community website Grannynet, to collate a bank of tried and tested advice.
Huw Williams, marketing director for Leger Holidays, said: “As we all know, travelling with family can be a truly rewarding experience, but it doesn’t come without a challenge or two along the way. You have to expect the unexpected and that sort of foresight can only come from those with first-hand experience in this area. That’s why we joined with Grannynet, and its followers, to produce a guide that’s guaranteed to be both relevant and informative.
“Taking a holiday is such a well-earned and special occasion and if, through guides such as this, we can help our customers to make the most of their breaks we will endeavour to do so!”
Verity Gill, Grannynet’s founder said: “The Grannynet community has a wealth of experience and expertise to offer and we were delighted to team up with Leger Holidays to share our members’ secrets behind a successful family holiday.
“We were really concerned to see that 27 per cent of people over 65 worry so much about travelling with children that it puts them off going on holiday with them at all. We can only hope that our guide helps put a few minds at rest this summer and helps to bring families together too!”
The guide is split into helpful sections including: planning, packing, on the move, holiday essentials, whilst away, the parents, and looking after you, with top tips including:
